Radar Detector Laws

Radar and laser detectors for cars are legal in all states except Virginia and in Washington, D.C. They are also illegal in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. In Europe, they are illegal in Belgium, France and Russia. Radar detectors are not confiscated by the police in any state. Federal Law which applies to all states make radar/laser detectors illegal in all commercial vehicles or in vehicles over 18,000 pounds weight and in any vehicle of any weight that carries people commercially (meaning taxis, buses, etc.)

What Makes a Good Radar Detector?

Long Range Sensitivity
The ability to detect radar way before the radar gets a reading of your speed.

Wide Band Capability
It must cover all the bands used by the police to transmit radar plus laser. These bands include X-band (10.525 GH), K-band (24.150GH) and Ka-bands (32.000 to 36.000 GH). All major radar detectors made today cover these bands.

VG-2
This feature detects the detector. Some police use VG-2 to detect the presence of a radar detector.

City/Highway Modes
This feature is important because it minimizes false alarms while maintaining effective long distance detection.

Features
Adjustable volume control, sound mute, dimmer settings and memory so you don't need to reset these adjustments each time you turn it on.
